Life and Disability Insurance
Basic Life Insurance (Employer Paid)
TLC provides $5,000 Aetna Life/Accidental Death &
Dismemberment (AD&D) insurance for our transportation industry clients’
employees. Employees who are eligible for, and enroll in, TLC’s Medical Plan
receive another $5,000 for a total of $10,000 Life/AD&D (non-transportation
industry worksite employees get $10,000 Life/AD&D when enrolled in TLC
Medical). Coverage is effective the 1st of the month following
60 days employed.
Life Insurance (Employee Voluntary)
Employees can purchase up to $150,000 Aetna Life and Accidental
Death & Dismemberment (AD&D) insurance for themselves, up to $50,000
for their Spouse, and $5,000 for each Child. During an employee’s initial
eligibility period (1st 60 days employed), coverage is guaranteed
issue for the 1st $100,000 of Employee Life coverage, the 1st $25,000
of Spouse Life coverage and $5,000 Child Life coverage. After the initial
eligibility period, an employee may apply for coverage during annual open
enrollment (Nov-Dec), and additional medical information will be required.
Short Term Disability Insurance (Employee Voluntary)
Employees can purchase Short Term Disability Insurance (STD) through payroll deduction. STD provides income replacement benefits in the event of a non-occupational illness or injury. STD benefits pay 60% of pre-disability earnings beginning after 14 days of disability and continue for up to either 13 weeks or 26 weeks, depending on the policy selected. STD is open for enrollment during an employee’s initial eligibility period (1st 60 days employed), and during annual open enrollment (Nov-Dec, effective Jan. 1st).
Long Term Disability Insurance (Employee Voluntary)
Employees can purchase Long Term Disability
Insurance (LTD) through payroll deduction. LTD provides income replacement
benefits in the event of an illness or injury, with a longer benefit start
period (90 days after disability vs. 14 days), but also a longer duration than
Short Term Disability benefits. LTD covers both on and off-the-job injury or
illness, and benefits continue for up to 2 years, depending on the disability.
If offered, LTD is open for enrollment during an employee’s initial eligibility
period (1st 60 days employed), and during annual open enrollment
(Nov-Dec, effective Jan. 1st).
